A woman with a history of committing public nuisance offences who was involved in a brawl outside a Mount Morgan hotel has been warned by a Rockhampton magistrate that she will go to jail if her behaviour continues.

Barbara Lee Oram, 40, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of committing public nuisance within licensed a premise.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said police were called to the Grand Hotel on Central Street, Mount Morgan, on July 12 at 10pm to reports of numerous people involved in a fight on the footpath outside the venue.

Sergeant Ongheen said police viewed CCTV footage which showed a man and a woman having a heated verbal altercation on the footpath outside the Grand Hotel at 9.15pm.

He said Oram was standing behind the woman and hit the man in the face, which resulted in a brawl.

He said staff and other patrons were able to defuse the brawl, however, Oram continued to yell at the man and wave her hands around before returning to the gaming area.

Defence lawyer Brendon Selic said although his client became involved in the altercation, it involved many others and she was not charged with any serious offences.

Magistrate Cameron Press noted that Oram had at least 10 public nuisance offences on her criminal history.

“You come before this court with a history of acting out like this, clearly when you are consuming alcohol,” Mr Press said.

“You have a number of convictions for public nuisances.

“You received, since 2014, probation on most of those occasions.

“In June of this year you were placed on probation for public nuisance and common assault for 12 months and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.

“If you keep behaving like this you are going to end up going to jail.”

Mr Press sentenced Oram to prison for three months, suspended for 15 months.
