Brodan Mepstead sentenced in Yeppoon court for Pacific Hotel incident

A concreter has been banned from all licensed premises in the Yeppoon district after his bad behaviour got out of control at one of the venues.

Concreter Brodan John Mepstead has been banned from all licensed premises in the Yeppoon district after an ugly incident at one of the local hotels.

The teenager was at the Pacific Hotel on March 31, when about 1am he got into a verbal altercation with another patron and he smashed a glass window at the venue.

Security removed Mepstead but he continued to loiter outside the hotel and again got into a verbal altercation with a patron that turned physical.

Mepstead then tried to re-enter the hotel by climbing over a locked front gate before being stopped and security called for police to attend.

When police spoke to Mepstead he was highly uncooperative, appeared intoxicated, and they gave him a move-on direction.

Mepstead walked across James St and swore and screamed.

During a police patrol a short time later, Mepstead was seen standing back outside the Pacific Hotel.

Mepstead, 19, accepted that version of events in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on May 16 where he pleaded guilty to charges including public nuisance within licensed premises, and contravening a police move-on direction.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe described Mepstead’s actions as he walked across James St as “an adult tantrum.”

The prosecution sought a 12-month banning order for all licensed premises in the Yeppoon district.

The court heard although Mepstead’s criminal history was “very limited” he did have prior public nuisance offending on it.

Solicitor Rebecca Winning said Mepstead was a concreter who was intoxicated on the night of the offending.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale fined Mepstead $450, placed him on probation for six months, and banned him from licensed premises in the Yeppoon district for 12 months.

No conviction was recorded.
