Rebel bikie gang celebrates 50 years

A panel beater has been busted wearing an outlaw motorcycle gang’s patches on his clothing while riding in a group on Queensland’s most travelled highway.

Brett David Picard, 53, pleaded guilty on June 29 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of wearing a prohibited item.

The court heard Picard was busted at Marmor’s BP service station on May 1.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Darrell Dalton said a group of motorbike riders were pulled over at the BP service station on the Bruce Highway, at 7.31am, and police identified members of the Rebels Motorcycle Club in the group.

He said Picard was questioned about a T-shirt he was wearing which had the word “Queensland” in white, in font unique to the Rebels motorcycle gang.

Sgt Dalton said in the centre of the shirt was a map of the state with two people riding motorbikes and wearing the outlaw motorcycle gang patches which made it a prohibited item.

“These T-shirts cannot be bought in stores,” Sgt Dalton said.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said Picard owned and ran a spray painting and panel beating business.

The court heard Picard had a two-page criminal record and his last time before the court was in 2016.

Magistrate Cameron Press fined Picard $750 and a conviction was recorded.
