An apprentice auto electrician has faced court after he was busted fence jumping through Capricorn Coast properties in the early hours of the morning.

Marcus William Shanahan, 19, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on September 28 to wilful damage.

The court heard police responded to a call about a trespasser in the rear garden of a Park Street residence at Yeppoon about 12.45am on September 2.

It was told that when police arrived, they found the pair at the front of the home after the resident had confronted Shanahan.

“(Shanahan) stated to police he was just passing through the rear of the property and adjoining properties when he was noticed by the victim,” the prosecutor said.

The prosecutor said while jumping a fence, Shanahan broke two timber palings off it, which led to the wilful damage charge.

The court heard Shanahan had no criminal history and the prosecution did not seek any restitution.

Solicitor Myles Heath said Shanahan was an apprentice auto electrician who had completed his education at Yeppoon State High School.

Mr Heath did not submit anything in relation to the circumstances of the offence and he asked Magistrate Cameron Press to consider not recording a conviction given Shanahan’s young age.

Mr Press fined Shanahan $300 and no conviction was recorded.
