Parkhurst business goes up in flames overnight

Police have declared a crime scene after a fire razed a Central Queensland business with initial investigations suggesting the blaze may have been deliberately lit.

Police have declared a crime scene after a fire razed a Central Queensland business with initial investigations suggesting the blaze may have been deliberately lit.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Sturt Street just after 10.30pm Wednesday where the Moloney & Sons Engineering building was fully engulfed by flames.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said six crews attended the fire and witnessed the one-storey building completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the front section of the building by 11.15pm and had left the scene by 1.40am.

The Fire Investigation Unit is expected to attend the site on Thursday.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said a crime scene had been declared at the address as officers investigate the cause of the fire.

He said early investigations indicate the fire may be suspicious.


A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics were on standby at a structure fire on Sturt Street at 10.30pm, no patients were reported on scene and crews were cleared around 1am.
