Police investigate two house fires in Rockhampton on October 31

Police have charged a 16-year-old with arson after a Rockhampton City house fire, as they continue investigating a Depot Hill home blaze that occurred hours later.

Police have charged a 16-year-old with arson after a Rockhampton City house fire, as they continue investigating a Depot Hill home blaze that occurred hours later.

Emergency services were called to a Campbell St, Rockhampton City at 1am on October 31.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said the bottom section of the house was on fire when they arrived on scene and it was completely extinguished by 4.45am.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a woman in her 70s was taken to Rockhampton Hospital for observation.

A 16-year-old was charged with arson and a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the teenager will front Rockhampton Children’s Court on November 4.

Just hours later, emergency services rushed to put out a Depot Hill home ablaze.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said the home was engulfed in flames when their crews arrived after 9am and that the fire was out by 9.40am.

The spokeswoman also said the Fire Investigation Unit was assigned to the incident.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a woman in her 50s was transported to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition and treated for smoke inhalation.

On November 4, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said investigations were ongoing.
