Mt Larcom emergency: QFES, RACQ Capricorn rescue navigated dangerous terrain

Rescue workers navigated dangerous terrain and tree cover while assisting an injured hiker at a Central Queensland mountain today.

Rescue workers navigated dangerous terrain and tree cover while assisting an injured hiker at a Central Queensland mountain today.

Emergency services were tasked prior to midday to a woman in her early 30s who had injured her ankle while hiking Mount Larcom, just outside Gladstone.

RACQ Capricorn Rescue was tasked at midday to assist.

The woman had injured her ankle when she fell down while descending the popular walking track.

She was about 200m from the peak when she slipped and injured her ankle.

Due to her inability to walk and distance from the mountain base, Rescue 300 was tasked to perform a rescue winch recovery.

However, due to the dangerous terrain and tree cover, the patient was relocated with the help of Queensland Fire Emergency Services to a more suitable winch point.

The Rescue Crewman and Queensland Ambulance Service Critical Care Paramedic were inserted into a nearby area to assess and retrieve the patient.

A winch rescue was performed and the patient was taken in a stable condition to Gladstone Airport where Queensland Ambulance Service members then transported them to hospital.
