Man in 70s dies after Bruce Highway crash south of Gladstone

A man in his 70s has died following a fatal two-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway south of Gladstone.

The crash closed the Bruce Highway in both directions for multiple hours at Iveragh between the exits of Turkey Beach and Tannum Sands overnight Sunday.

Initial investigations indicate the head-on collision occurred about 5.47pm Sunday at the intersection of Christensen Road and the Bruce Highway between a northbound Ford Falcon and a southbound Toyota Hilux.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford, a male in his 70s, suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

Neither the driver or passenger in the Toyota were physically injured.

In a media statement, Queensland Police confirmed the Forensic Crash Unit was now investigating the cause of the crash.

Anyone with information, who witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam footage is urged to contact police.

After multiple hours of the Bruce Highway being closed in both directions, it was reopened at about 3am Monday morning.
