A Mackay mother charged over the fatal highway smash that claimed the life of Clermont health hero Tam Dixon Frewin may have to enter a plea by the next court date.

A road crash report is still outstanding in the case against Rozlyn Grace Walker, who is charged with reckless driving causing death and drug-driving over the Peak Downs Highway crash on February 2, 2022.

An Australia Day Award nominee, Mrs Dixon Frewin was taking an elderly client to the doctor when a head-on collision occurred at Strathfield, about 25km west of Nebo.

It is alleged Ms Walker had been driving east on the highway between Coppabella and Strathfield and crossed the centre lines in her Toyota, which collided head-on with Mrs Dixon Frewin’s vehicle.

The 44 year old tragically died at the scene.

Mrs Walker also suffered serious injuries and had to be removed from her vehicle. She was flown to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.

In late March, the 33 year old was charged with careless driving causing death, which has a maximum penalty of a $22,056 fine or two years jail and a six-month driving ban if convicted, and driving with a relevant drug in her system.

Mrs Walker appeared in court for the first time in early May.

When her case was mentioned briefly on Tuesday, Mackay Magistrates Court heard there had been a number of mentions.

The court heard she did not appear in person on Tuesday or at her last mention because she was unwell.

Solicitor Antoinette Morton, of Fisher Dore Lawyers, said she had not yet received the road accident report in relation to the case but had received a number of statements.

Ms Morton said she hoped to conference with her client later this week.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer allowed an adjournment to early August and said it was the last adjournment before a plea.
