Family and friends mourn murder victim and beloved Anuisha Bone

The 34-year-old shot dead in central Queensland had premonitions that something would happen to him in the last weeks of his life, his parents have revealed, as he urged them to take care of the love of his life. VIDEO

His head resting on a soft teddy bear with a love heart on its belly, Kodak stares sadly across a lush green backyard, waiting for his handsome and charismatic “dad” to jump the fence and collect him in his strong arms in a fierce cuddle.

The large, black Shar Pei, does not know Anuisha Bone, whose shooting death last week sent shockwaves through Rockhampton, won’t be coming back.

“When he first brought him home, he said ‘mum, this is your grandson’,” Anuisha’s mum, Dang, said, rolling her eyes with a smile on her face.

“It’s the love of his life – his son.

“He said if I’ve gone, you make sure you take care of my son.”

Anuisha’s father Terry, Dang, and his older brothers talk for hours about Anuisha’s love for family.

“He loved mum and dad a lot,” one of his older brothers, Aek, said.

Pointing over the backyard towards another house, Dang says with a smile and a small shake of her head, “To the point he can’t even live far away – just two houses (away). He came home for lunch. He can’t go far away”.

“Where are my socks?” Aek said, mimicking his cheeky younger brother.

“Where’s my shirt?” Dang laughed, explaining she also still washed his clothes.

Echoes that were heard often, will now be greatly missed.

A floral tribute has been left on a Give Way sign near the site where Anuisha’s body was found after he suffered a gunshot wound to his neck on Rockhampton Yeppoon Road in the early hours of Friday, November 17.

The body was discovered by a member of the public and there were no other vehicles at the scene.

Police have made a public appeal for information or footage of a vehicle they believe is of interest in the homicide investigation. The vehicle is a light green Hyundai Getz sedan. People living nearby reported hearing multiple gunshots.

HOME WAS WHERE HIS HEART WAS

Although he physically left his childhood home when he was an adult, his heart and his memories stayed, and somehow, his clothes and appetite made its way back home, too.

Holding back tears, Terry describes an unexpected package they received in the mail after Anuisha’s passing on November 17.

As soon as the 34-year-old became a great-uncle after his older brother Orl’s daughter had a baby, he quickly bought an adorable pair of shoes for the baby from eBay.

“We found out after he’d gone,” Terry said, proud of his generous son.

Dang explained Anuisha used to sneak over to the house next door while she and Terry were in bed in the morning and the neighbour would often give him ice cream for breakfast.

She said she would ask the neighbour if she had him, and she would yell that she had the larrikin.

“When he talked he had a cheeky grin,” Dang said.

“When he talked he made people laugh.

“When he laughed he made people laugh.

“He paid his father out so much (and) made his father laugh.”

Dang said he would tease her and call Terry T-Bone and her Dang when he was being “naughty”.

“He loved fishing,” she said.

“He’d sit there all night and all day, we’d have to take down the meal for him.”

‘HAD PREMONITIONS SOMETHING WOULD HAPPEN’

Their son’s fearlessness at times worried them.

Thursday, November 23, would have been his 35th birthday.

Although Anuisha might not be there in person, his presence will be felt as most of his family and many of his friends gather together, not to mourn him but celebrate as if he was there among them.

Yet, Dang and Terry said Anuisha had premonitions something would happen to him in the last weeks of his life before he was found fatally shot in the neck on the side of Rockhampton Yeppoon Rd.

In his last days he told his parents to turn the lights off if someone knocked and not to answer the door.

He was determined to whipper snipper the yard for them, with Dang explaining he wanted the yard looking perfect.

“We said we can get someone to do that,” Terry said.

“He broke the whipper snipper, he’s so strong.”

The couple said Anuisha had told his friend he could not live without his parents gone.

“But parents should not be burying their children,” Dang said.

She said he fell in with the wrong crowd.

But those who know Anuisha will remember the fearless, fashion-conscious fisherman as a leader on the sports field, collecting friends who would last a lifetime.

The Berserker Street State School, North Rockhampton High School and Emmaus College student was a Sports Captain whose talent on the football field and at Brothers Rugby Leagues Club saw him selected for an under 19s representative team.

He also had a gift for soccer and uplifting and leading others with his encouraging words and clothing.

“He set styles,” Dang said proudly.

Not just a sportsman, he and his brothers also learnt and competed in jazz, ballet and stomp when they were young.

‘BETTER DANCER THAN BEYONCE’

Dang laughs when telling a story about Anuisha doing a routine as an adult and describing himself as a better dancer than Beyonce.

While describing a photo of Anuisha at about four years old combing his hair with gel in it, Aek shakes his head as only a loving brother can do.

“He’s always ‘posh’, Dang laughed.

“He dyed his hair (when he was older), then everyone did.”

“He used to blow dry his hair. Who has a blow dryer and hair straightener?” Aek jokingly chirps in.

The qualified air mechanic both modelled and worked for City Beach and also promoted bands.

More than anything, his family will remember him for his love and compassion for everyone, including a neighbour whose child he regularly cared for.

The neighbour, who is putting together a photo slide show of Anuisha, Coralie Callaghan, remembers him helping her knit about 20 little sheep for a Shaun the Sheep-themed birthday party for her two-year-old, Atty.

“Always willing to help, no matter what ridiculous requests I had,” she said, explaining Anuisha had been part of her nine year old’s life since he was born.

Coralie will always remember the big smile he wore, no matter his own problems.

Dang described Anuisha, known to many friends as “Nook”, as the joy of everyone.

“He knew everything,” Terry said.

“He fixed everything.

“He loved his ‘son’, he loved his family, he loved everybody.”

Anuisha’s funeral will be held at the Rockhampton Crematorium at 11am on December 2.
