As people mourn the loss of their beloved ‘Nooks’, friends of Mr Bone have continued sharing heartbreaking messages of farewell after he was tragically found with a gunshot wound to his neck on Rockhampton Yeppoon Road in the early hours of Friday, November 17.

Police on Saturday made a public appeal for information or footage of a vehicle they believe is of interest in the homicide investigation.

The vehicle is a light green Hyundai Getz sedan.

Central Police Region Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow said police would like to speak with the driver and passengers.

The Hyundai vehicle was seen in the area of where the incident occurred on Yeppoon Road and had been spotted in Berserker, Rockhampton City and Port Curtis the day before and the day of the incident.

Detective Superintendent Shadlow said it was too early to speculate if the offenders were in this vehicle.

It is believed there may have been a second vehicle.

“At this stage, we are not sure,” he said.

“A witness did hear what they believe to be two vehicles.”

It is unclear which vehicle Mr Bone was in.

‘NOOKS’ LOVED FISHING AND MOTORBIKES

Mr Bone was treated by paramedics for the gunshot to his neck and CPR was administered, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Mr Bone, 34, was a former student of Emmaus College in Rockhampton.

One person wrote on social media that their heart went out to all the “Rockhampton Brothers lifers” and “Emmaus crew”.

They said, “Thanks for being just an absolute legend. You were so loved.”

He shared a myriad of photos of himself with countless friends and selfies with a Shar Pei dog on social media.

His account also revealed a love of fishing and motorbikes.

Anuisha also played footy in his younger days for Brothers Rugby League and was selected for an under 19s representative team.

Condolence messages were shared on Facebook within hours, saying “fly high brother” and “party hard up there”.

Detective Superintendent Shadlow said the family are doing as well as can be expected.

“They will get some support through the Homicide Victims Support Group and go from there,” he said.

A photographics team from Brisbane attended the scene on Saturday morning to record the crime scene.

‘WON’T LEAVE ANY STONE UNTURNED’

Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow said they have a number of lines of enquiry.

“We won’t leave any stone unturned,” he said.

A member of the public called triple zero just before 3.53am to report a man lying on the road at Access 3, a u-turn between the north and south bound lanes, on Rockhampton Yeppoon Road, a few minutes outside of Rockhampton, between the quarry and the archery fields.

There were no other vehicles and it appears the offenders had fled.

Detective Superintendent Shadlow said paramedics did perform CPR, however he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A crime scene was immediately established and the road was shut down, with a heavy police presence quickly descending on the area.

Detective Superintendent Shadlow said people living nearby reported hearing multiple gunshots.

Police are unsure if other people were injured.

One vehicle was heard speeding away from the scene and it is believed the body had not been on the roadway for very long, Detective Superintendent Shadlow said.

Police are asking anyone who might have footage or have driven in that area from 3am to get in touch.

LOOKING FOR SPENT CASINGS

The member of the public who found the body was not connected to the incident, Detective Superintendent Shadlow said.

Forensic officers are combing the nearby areas for evidence of what might have happened and specialists will arrive from Brisbane on Friday afternoon.

“(We are) looking for anything, spent casings or live ammunition, anything like that, vehicle tracks,” Detective Superintendent Shadlow said.

“I know it’s a very busy area … and members of the public will be diverted from that area.”

As of 11am on Friday, the body was still at the scene for forensic evidence and testing.

Yeppoon Road was closed from the Bruce Highway/Yaamba Road intersection onto Yeppoon Road, including access from Norman Road up to Access 5, past Seeonnee Scout Park grounds, until 6pm on Friday.

It was closed again briefly for further forensic testing between 6am and 6.30am on Saturday morning, November 18.

“We will take as much time as we need to process that scene,” Detective Superintendent Shadlow said.

“This is a very serious investigation and needs to be treated as such.”

Traffic was heavily congested as police were on scene at the Norman Road intersection directing traffic.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time or who might have information which could assist police with their investigation has been asked to contact them.

The community should not be worried or concerned, Detective Superintendent Shadlow said.

“We don’t believe it was a random attack,” he said.

The drama comes after farmers opened up about their fears of a crime epidemic on the outskirts of the Rockhampton region.

Police are investigating a break and enter at a property at Milman, where three firearms were allegedly stolen with the thief stealing a quad bike as their getaway vehicle.

Initial police investigations indicate the man entered the property on the Bruce Highway at Milman about 1pm and stole three firearms, ammunition and a Yamaha quad bike.

The offender then fled a short time later.

Detective Superintendent Shadlow confirmed the two incidents were not linked.
