Friends and family have shared their condolences to remember Rockhampton man Duane ‘Deej’ Warcon, aged 30, who died in a motorbike and car accident on February 16.

“He meant the world to so many people,” said best friend Tegan Hagarty.

“He made everyone think he was their best friend … He just meant so much to so many people.

“Over the years he met so many people and he had the same effect on them.”

Holding back tears, Ms Hagarty described her best friend as ‘very loyal’ and someone who would always have your back no matter what.

“No matter what you were going through, he would be there,” she said.

“He always made everyone feel special, you knew when he would walk in … his voice, he would light up the room, he would light up any barbecue … just being there.”

She spoke to him the morning of the accident.

“I talked to him yesterday (Wednesday) morning, he was fine, he was himself,” she said.

The pair met when Mr Warcon was 12 years old and they have been friends ever since.

Admittedly, Mr Warcon had a troubled past, but was turning over a new leaf. He had been released from jail in April 2021 for drug-related offences.

“I’ve been through thick and thin with him,” Ms Hagarty said.

She said he had been turning his life around and had been working for the past eight months.

Mr Warcon leaves behind two children who he loved very much.

“He was a mentor to his brother, sisters, nieces and nephews … he is going to be missed by so many people,” she said.

“It’s still surreal, hasn’t fully sunk in.

“He never will be forgotten.”

Messages on social media have shown how many lives Mr Warcon touched.

“There’s been a lot of posts, that goes to show how loved he was,” Ms Hagarty said.

Shayleigh Carpenter: He was one of a kind and such a gentleman.

Anthony DeFraine: He was a true friend, taken way too early …. I’m thinking of you mate, all of friends and family would be hurting now.

Jelisa Bridgeman: Just doesn’t make sense sometimes love you cuss forever in our hearts.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash in Rockhampton’s CBD just after 1pm on Wednesday, February 16.

Initial investigations have confirmed Mr Warcon was riding a motorbike along Denison Street with a female passenger on the back.

They were both wearing helmets.

A BMW sedan was at the Derby Street intersection stop sign and the two vehicles collided.

Mr Warcon was given first-aid by paramedics but tragically died at the scene.

His 20-year-old passenger, named Jess, was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.

She is understood to be in the ICU in a coma.

The driver of the BMW, a 43-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 15-year-old boy, were also transported to Rockhampton Hospital with minor injuries. Both were in a stable condition.
