Yeppoon businessman Jason Watkins, 53, has filed for bankruptcy just days after the sudden closure of his business, Waterfront Seafood Bar & Grill, leaving businesses and persons out of pocket by more than $700,000.

The seafood restaurant below Echelon Apartments on the Yeppoon foreshore closed its doors on Sunday March 6, with no warning to customers.

The business’ Facebook page was suddenly deleted and customers were asking on social media if the restaurant had closed as they couldn’t find the page or raise anyone on the listed phone number.

Customers with gift vouchers, one which was for $250, have also shared frustrations and disappointment that it doesn’t look like they will get their money back.

The owner, Jason Watkins, opened the business in April 2021.

The bankruptcy was filed by Mr Watkins himself on March 8, two days after the restaurant’s last day of trade.

The Notification of Bankruptcy states JAWGASH Pty Ltd as the associated entities of the bankruptcy, which is the company Waterfront Seafood Bar & Grill traded under.

The bankruptcy was filed with the official trustee, Australian Government’s Australian Financial Security Authority.

The bankruptcy notice lists Mr Watkins as a chef.

His registered home address is a property in Barlow’s Hill which is now available for rent for $800 per week.

It states the bankruptcy has an “automatic discharge date” of March 9, 2026.

This means the period of bankruptcy would cease and Mr Watkin would no longer be declared bankrupt from this date, if no objections have been lodged.
