It has been a sour start to 2023 for a Central Queensland business owner who was the victim of a destructive ram-raid.

Blackwater Sports in Littlefield Street, Blackwater, was struck by thieves in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said a Ssangyong Musso dual cab ute was reversed through the front security doors of the store about 2.30am Sunday.

Cash was stolen from the register before offenders fled.

The spokesman said there were three people in the vehicle, which is believed to have been stolen from Blackwater.

Police are investigating whether the ram-raid is linked to a dramatic police operation that unfolded later on Sunday morning on Rockhampton’s outskirts.
