Rescue pug joins bridal party in a custom-made Italian suit

When it comes to making a wedding day entrance it’s usually the bride who steals the show. But not this time. On Matthew and Bridget’s special day it was their rescue pug Atari who pulled focus. In his custom-made Italian suit the little dog was a stylish addition to the bridal party.

The lovebirds, of Carina, in Brisbane’s southeast, met eight years ago when Bridget moved next door to Matthew.

Matthew initially thought his new neighbour had been complaining about noise coming from his townhouse, but when he discovered she wasn’t the one dobbing him in, they became friends and soon started dating.

How did Matthew propose?

We were flying out to the Philippines on holidays and to visit Matt’s twin, Daniel, who lives there. Matt had planned to propose on the trip, but started to panic that he’d lose the ring, so made the impromptu decision to propose just before leaving for the airport.

He went down on one knee and of course I said yes.

What made this uniquely your wedding?

Because we had organised it all within the family, it felt like everyone played a part in organising it, which made it really special.

Special memories?

As soon as we saw each other, we both could not stop smiling. The entire day, it was everything we could ever have wished for. We are very lucky to have such amazing family and friends.

Funny moments?

My dad’s spreadsheet detailing the
running order on the day — it raised literally hundreds of questions which was very amusing, but in the end everything ran smoothly.

Also, Matthew’s brother Adam Brunes as our amazing MC had everyone laughing the entire day and night.
