An independent analysis has revealed Queensland’s top 150 high schools for 2024.
Better Education – an independent specialist schools website - has released its most recent best schools rankings for Queensland including both public and private schools between Years 7-10.
The state overall score, used to rank the secondary institutions, is calculated using the school’s Year 9 English and Maths test results in 2024.
A score of 100 is the highest, 60 is the lowest.

A total of 25 state schools made the cut - compared to 29 the year before - in the list mostly dominated by private schools.
The top five was largely unchanged but Ormiston College, ranked eighth in 2023, made it to fourth, alongside Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology; Brisbane Grammar School; Brisbane Girls Grammar; and Brisbane State High School.
Somerville House and St Peters Lutheran College, both in the River City, stayed in their spots from the year prior at fifth and sixth.
Among the public schools in the top 50, alongside some of Queensland’s most elite schools, were Brisbane School of Distance Education, Mansfield State High School, Brisbane South State Secondary College, Indooroopilly State High School and Kelvin Grove State College.
Some of the largest improvers were Brisbane Boys’ College at eighth from 25th in 2023, Brisbane School of Distance Education at 18th from 57th, Toowoomba Christian College at 50th from 109th and Coolum Beach Christian College at 99th from 146th.
Other significant improvements were seen at St Hilda’s School surging from 51st to a ranking of 34, while Coomera Anglican College rose from 80 to 64, and Rockhampton Grammar School climbed from 83 to 107.
Schools from the regions which snagged a spot this time around were Endeavor Christian College in Cooktown and Noosa Pengari Steiner School in Doonan and Noosa Christian College in Cooroy.
