Queensland weather: Roads flood as drenching continues
A man has been rescued from his car and a major highway is closed due to a nine-car pile-up as flooding continues to affect roads in and around Brisbane.

A MAN has been rescued after his car became trapped in floodwaters that reached up to the wheels near Brisbane’s Mt Coot-tha.
Emergency services were called to Gap Creek Rd at Kenmore Hills about 5.45pm.
The man was helped out of the car by a good samaritan before emergency services arrived and towed the car.

Police have since closed the road.
Meanwhile, all northbound lanes on the Pacific Motorway are blocked following a nine-vehicle pile up in Brisbane’s south.
A crash involving eight cars and a truck occured about 7.30pm on the Pacific Motorway at Greenslopes.
No one is trapped or injured however long delays are expected as the vehicles are removed.
Incoming traffic is being diverted at Gaza Road.
It comes as the on-ramp to the Bruce Highway at Griffin has been closed due to flash flooding.
All Brisbane City Council buses have been delayed by up to an hour as a result of severe weather.
And a two-vehicle crash about 6.45pm at the intersection of Days and Kedron Brook roads, Grange, blocked the left lanes of Days Rd.
Motorists have been warned to slow down as wet weather causes traffic chaos across Brisbane and other parts of the state.
Vehicles got stuck in the middle of the road on Vulture St, between Merivale and Grey streets, in South Brisbane, earlier this morning due to flash flooding.
The water has now subsided and Vulture St has been reopened.
There was also a “large amount of water” across Kingsford Smith Drv near Schneider Rd earlier today, while a crash that happened earlier on the Gateway Mwy at Carindale northbound caused lengthy delays for several hours.

EARLIER: Another crash on the Gateway Mwy has further delayed traffic.
The speed limit has been reduced to just 40km/h northbound towards Rochedale. As of 9.50am, both lanes were blocked following the multi-vehicle crash near the Logan Mwy off-ramp.

Commuters told The Courier-Mail their normal trip to work took double the amount of time, and Brisbane City Council urged bus passengers to be patient, with all bus services now expected to be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
King George Square bus stops 2A, 2B, 2C were also out of action due to “extreme weather conditions”, with passengers being dropped and picked up from 2D, 2E and 2F.

Power outages are also affecting traffic signals throughout the city, further delaying commuters.

As of 11.15am, there was 4601 people without power in southeast Queensland, with the majority of those affected in the Kangaroo Point and Chermside West areas.
Queensland Ambulance Service advanced care paramedic Kelsey Warner is urging drivers to show patience as they travel this morning.
“In the past couple of hours we’ve seen a single-vehicle crash on the Ipswich motorway at Goodna during heavy rain that required a patient transported to Ipswich Hospital.

“Two patients went to Princess Alexandra Hospital following a multi-vehicle crash on the Gateway Mwy and a patient transported from a rollover on Gympie Rd in Petrie,” she said
“We ask that motorists drive at a speed that is suitable for the conditions including keeping a larger distance and to please avoid any floodwaters.”
