Queen Wharf’s new Star Casino display labelled an eyesore

Brisbane residents have expressed outrage over what appears to be a new advertising feature at the $3.6bn Queens Wharf precinct, which is due to open in August. Rate or hate? Vote now

Queen's Wharf lit up with Multiplex branding

A glistening scrolling screen at the $3.6bn Queens Wharf Brisbane precinct has been labelled an “eyesore” by punters online.

A kaleidoscope of lights beaming through the new Star Casino with developer Multiplex’s slogan being advertised has not been well received, according to social media.

A video of the scrolling screen was uploaded to social media by a rooftop worker overnight, with the precinct’s builder Multiplex advertising their slogan on the massive screen.

“I find Multiplex’s new scrolling text lights such an eyesore and assume it’ll be an ad space soon,” the punter wrote.

“I work on a rooftop and it’s the first night I’ve noticed it going.”

The post has sense attracted dozens of comments.

Another person said the display looked like it was run down and of low quality.

“In true casino fashion, it looks bright, soulless and janky as f***,” one comment read.

“This is pretty hideous. Video billboards make it seem like Brisbane is not for people to love their lives, it’s just a muck pit of advertising,” wrote another.

After multiple delays, the precinct set to ‘transform Brisbane’, is on track to finally open in August.

The Star Grand, a 340-room five-star hotel, will be one of the first venues to open, along with several spaces on the level 23 Sky Deck and a number of other restaurants and bars including a gigantic sports bar and a noodle eatery designed by celebrity chef Luke Nguyen.

A spokesman for The Star Group said Multiplex was testing all the lights ahead of the official opening.

“Multiplex and their consultants are doing a series of testing that’s ongoing to make sure all the lights are synchronising, the official light show won’t commence until the opening,” the spokesman said.

“Earlier on we were only testing the lower levels but as the upper levels become live they would need testing.”
