After multiple delays, the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf project in the Brisbane CBD is finally on track for an August opening, with entertainment space LiveWire the latest venue to join the growing ranks of bars and restaurants.
The Star Grand, a 340-room five-star hotel, will be one of the first venues to open, along with several spaces on the level 23 Sky Deck and a number of other restaurants and bars including a gigantic sports bar and a noodle eatery designed by celebrity chef Luke Nguyen.
Carrying on the LiveWire name from the Treasury’s sports bar, the Queen’s Wharf venue will provide a new platform for Brisbane’s music and arts scene, with a sports bar slated to open next door.
In a behind-the-scenes tour, Brisbane band Sheppard were joined by emerging local group LA BOUM’s musical director, Stephen Anning, and Hamilton husband and wife soul duo, Lai Utovou and Rachel Everett-Jones.
Amy Sheppard said she was impressed by the “incredible” sound system installed at LiveWire.
“It’s awesome to see another dedicated space for live music and entertainment taking shape in our hometown! We know first-hand the importance of having venues like LiveWire to showcase homegrown talent and provide a platform for artists to shine,” she said.
“Performances at LiveWire won’t just be about the music; it will be an immersive experience for both the artist and the audience.”
The Star Brisbane chief operating officer (hospitality) Kelvin Dodt said pieces were coming together at Queen’s Wharf.
“LiveWire is one of dozens of venues and spaces that will open at The Star Brisbane as part of the first phase of a multi-staged opening,” he said.
“As we open our doors from August more entertainment and dining experiences will progressively come on line.”
Once fully operational, Queen’s Wharf will be home to four hotels and resorts, more than 50 restaurants, bars and cafes, and is expected to attract almost 1.4 million visitors every year.
