A Cooran mother has walked way with a hefty fine after she pleaded guilty to growing cannabis for personal use.
Alichia Anne McNee, 36, pleaded guilty in Noosa Magistrates Court on August 30, 2022, to six drug-related offences, including producing and possessing cannabis.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Stephens said McNee’s Cooran home was raided on May 5, 2022 where three hydroponic set-ups were found throughout the property.
Sergeant Stephens said police also found 32 cannabis plants weighing more than 2kg and about 200g of dried cannabis at the mother-of two’s home.
He told the court McNee told police when they arrived at the property about the cannabis growing throughout the home.
“Whilst there is a level of sophistication in the two set-ups, the plants weren’t of significant maturity and the amount of lose cannabis was in the 200-odd grams,” Sergeant Stephens said.
McNee’s solicitor, Katie Patterson, said her client was remorseful and had since sought medical cannabis prescription for her ongoing chronic pain.
“These proceedings have been a huge wake up call for my client,” Ms Patterson said.
“She co-operated and made full admissions to police at the execution of the search warrant.”
Ms Patterson said there was never any commerciality alleged by police in connection to the hydroponic set-up.
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist ordered McNee, who has worked as a nurse and a cleaner in the past, pay a $3000 fine within 12 months or face a three month imprisonment if she fails to pay.
“It’s somewhat sophisticated, there’s planning, there’s some detail and there's tendering and cultivation,” Mr Stjernqvist said.
All items were forfeited to police.
No convictions were recorded.
