A Bli Bli strawberry farm worker told police he was allowed to urinate on their vehicle after a night out in Maroochydore because he “owned it” due to paying taxes, a court has heard.

Poasi Kavafolau, 30, was fined $862 in Maroochydore Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to a public nuisance charge on August 26, 2022.

Prosecutor James Allen said the farm worker was just finishing up a night out on Ocean St in Maroochydore on July 30, 2022, when he decided to urinate on a marked police vehicle.

Mr Allen said officers saw Kavafolau “initiating a steady stream across the vehicle” before they confronted him about it.

“He was argumentative and stated that he needed to urinate ... the male again removed his penis and urinated onto the ground next to the vehicle in front of police, the spittle of the initial burst nearly hitting the officers feet and legs,” Mr Allen told the court.

Police questioned Kavafolau who claimed he was allowed to urinate on the vehicle as he owned it.

He began yelling “I can f--king p--s on it because I pay your taxes so I own the vehicle and can piss on it”.

Kavafolau continued to yell and swear at police saying “I don’t give a f--k, I p--s where I want”.

He was arrested and taken to the watchhouse.

Duty lawyer Leisel Rogan said her client accepted his behaviour was poor and he was sorry for his actions.

Ms Rogan said Kavafolau grew up in Tonga before moving to the Sunshine Coast.

“He indicated to me that on that night he had consumed a quantity of alcohol and English is not his first language,” Ms Rogan told the court.

Magistrate Rod Madsen did not record a conviction against Kavafolau.
