Aiden George Swindlehurst sentenced in Noosa Magistrates Court after a beach burnout session on Teewah Beach

A Tewantin man, 21, caught doing beach burnouts near a crowd of campers has been told losing his job might be the lesson he needs to “grow up”, a court has heard.

A 21-year-old who was caught doing beach burnouts near campers at a popular holiday destination has been told to “grow up” and not use his car as a toy, a court has heard.

Aiden George Swindlehurst was fined $200 and disqualified from driving for three months after he pleaded guilty on Tuesday to driving over the general alcohol limit while a p-plater.

Police prosecutor Pedau Grabbe told Noosa Magistrates Court police saw Swindlehurst tearing up Teewah Beach on September 11.

“Police … observed a vehicle doing doughnuts and spinning around on sand near a large group of campers,” she said.

“The wheels were spinning and the engine was overloaded with sand spraying up for the tires.”

Constable Grabbe said Swindlehurst drove the car up into a crowded camping area in the sand dunes when police drove towards him.

The Tewantin resident who admitted to driving “stupidly” blew a reading of 0.063.

Solicitor Bernard Bradley said Swindlehurst was in danger of losing his job.

Mr Bradley said he was held in high regard by his employer and said a shorter disqualification period would give Swindlehurst the best chance at keeping his job.

The court heard Swindlehurst had only received a couple of fines on his traffic history.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said he would only impose the minimum disqualification period given his lack of traffic history, young age and low reading.

“I can see your job is in some danger and even if you don't lose your job it’s going to be a severe inconvenience for your employer,” he said.

“That’s the lesson we want to bring home so it might make you grow up a bit and start treating your car like a car, not a toy, because it's not a toy,” he said.

Swindlehurst was fined $200 and disqualified from driving for three months.
