Georgia Sutherland sentenced for flicking police officer’s penis in Noosa

A night out in a tourist hotspot led to a “rotten drunk” Sunshine Beach woman forcibly flicking the end of a police officer’s penis. Her solicitor revealed in court her reaction to the case against her.

A Noosa police officer was left with bruised genitalia after a “rotten drunk” Sunshine Beach woman forcibly flicked the end of his penis on a night out in a tourist hotspot.

Georgia Sutherland, 27, was fined $600 and ordered to complete 40 hours of community service after she pleaded guilty to serious assault of a police officer in Noosa Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Police Prosecutor Pedau Grabbe said Sutherland, who was seriously intoxicated, had been yelling obscene language and refused security guards’ requests to leave the Bay Village Complex on Hastings Street when she was given a move-on order by police at 2:15am on September 26.

Constable Grabbe said police later found Sutherland lying on the ground in the exit of the complex when she assaulted a male officer.

“As she climbed up off the ground she forcibly lashed out her left hand flicking her hands and fingers at (the officer’s) groin,” she said.

“ …(Sutherland‘s) fingers forcibly connected with the end of (the officer’s) penis which at that time was only protected by two layers of clothing.”

She said the officer suffered immediate pain and bruising of his genitalia.

The court heard police had to use considerable force to arrest the woman and place her in the car before driving to Maroochydore watch house.

“She shouted abuse at (the officer), mocking him and the size of his anatomy and telling him she was glad she assaulted him,” Constable Grabbe said.

Sutherland also pleaded guilty to obstructing police while adversely affected in a public place.

Solicitor Bernard Bradley said the carpenter hadn’t eaten during the working day and had to look at her bank account to figure out how much alcohol she had drunk.

Mr Bradley said she was “horrendously” affected by alcohol.

“She is utterly remorseful and … was aghast when she had the facts read back to her,” he said.

He said Sutherland didn't have an issue with alcohol and said the behaviour was out of character.

He noted Sutherland had no criminal history, had entered early pleas of guilty and had been cooperative with police.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin described Sutherland as being “rotten drunk”.

“You were carrying on like a drunken yobbo, shouting and swearing at 2 o’clock in the morning and waking up guests,” he said.

He said if Sutherland had history of violence against police he would jail her for the “appalling conduct”.

“It was a deliberate act to strike him like that which is not only a cowardly thing to do, but completely uncalled for,” he said.

A conviction was not recorded.
