It was a retro revival on the Redcliffe Peninsula on Tuesday as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s TV series took over a waterfront restaurant.
Scarborough’s Tempest Seafood Restaurant, north of Brisbane, was a hive of activity as actors decked out in 1980s occasion outfits filmed the NBC series about Johnson’s younger years, closing down the restaurant for two days.

The waterfront location is doubling for Hawaii, where Johnson grew up, with actor Adrian Groulx, who plays the actor and wrestler aged 10, spotted on set in casual jeans and a T-shirt.
Racks of retro clothes and laundry baskets filled with accessories spilt out of trailers stationed in the car park of the restaurant, which became a venue called “Lorenzo’s” for the series.

It is the production’s second visit to the Moreton Bay region having previously delighted Strathpine locals by filming at a suburban pizza restaurant last month.
Mayor Peter Flannery said waiving filming fees and getting staff to help with letterbox dropping had enticed the crew to return to region.
“I want to thank Council officers for their lightning fast turnaround on these approvals and the community for their patience,” he said.
“I want Moreton Bay to earn a reputation as the easiest place to film in South East Queensland, so I’m really heartened by such positive feedback.
“The economic benefit of having 100 crew in our region for both days was great and I look forward to them coming back for a third.”
The production has been spotted filming across Brisbane suburbs including Wynnum and Camp Hill as well as on the Gold Coast.
It is one of a number of productions filming in Queensland, with Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis movie set to be joined by Netflix flick Escape from Spiderhead, starring Chris Hemsworth, on the Gold Coast this week.
Netflix is also currently filming teen drama series Dive Club in Port Douglas while Chris Sun is directing horror movie The Possessed on the Gold Coast.
