Tributes for Beaconsfield mum of two Casandra ‘Cassie’ Townsend after shock death

A mum of two is being remembered as bubbly, positive and absolutely devoted to her children as police investigate her cause of death.

A mum of two is being remembered as “bubbly”, positive and absolutely devoted to her children as grieving friends and family come to grips with her shock death.

“I just can’t believe she’s gone,” friend Nicole Stott said.

Casandra Townsend, 37, was found dead at her Beaconsfield home by family members in the afternoon on January 8 sparking police to declare the property a crime scene while the cause of death is investigated.

This remains ongoing as police wait for the results of an autopsy.

Better known as Cassie, she was described as “very happy and optimistic”, full of energy, and a “really good mum”.

“She really put her kids first,” Ms Stott said, adding she was shocked over her friend’s death.

The pair met about three years ago via an online mum’s group that transitioned into real life friendship.

“She was very positive,” Ms Stott said, adding she Cassie and a couple of other ladies from the group would catch up when they could.

But as busy working mums availability didn’t always align – so Ms Stott kept up with Cassie via her social media posts.

Cassie was a prolific poster on facebook and Instagram, showing snippets of her life including sharing vulnerable moments so others in the same position knew they weren’t alone.

Ms Stott said she also posted uplifting quotes.

“She was trying to inspire and promote others,” Ms Stott said.

“I’m going to miss her posts so much.”

Ms Stott said Cassie often posted a Facebook live videos wishing anyone watching a good morning.

“I used to watch them every single day,” she said.

Ms Stott said Cassie worked casually and was also trying to kick start her own online marketing business – with many of her social media posts spruiking this venture.

“She loved doing side hustles,” Ms Stott said.

“She always had a little side hustle … to keep her busy.”

On January 1 Cassie posted about 2025 labelling it a “new chapter, a fresh start, and endless possibilities”.

Police were called to Cassie’s home about 3.20pm on January 8 after her body was found.

The property was declared a crime scene by 5.30pm with police crews including specialist forensic officers working late into the night gather and bagging objects.

It is standard procedure for police to declare a crime scene while officers are investigating a sudden death when there is no obvious cause.

“Investigations into the death are continuing and investigators are awaiting the results of a post mortem to determine cause of death,” QPS have stated.
