The Mackay Cricket Association’s first grade one-day finals series is just around the corner, find out how each club is shaping up ahead of the run home.

Magpies

Magpies are the clear frontrunners in the competition at this point, remaining undefeated from all seven completed matches with a net run-rate higher than 2.

If any team is able to get the best of them during the finals series it will certainly be an upset.

Pioneer Valley

If there is a club with the potential to unseat Magpies then Pioneer Valley would have to be one of the first choices.

With the batting firepower they have on offer - including the likes of Darryn Dyer and Cody Filewood among others - there’s every reason to believe they can go all the way if they get on a roll.

Walkerston

It would be remiss to count out a team with such a great deal of experience and talent, but Walkerston will need to find a way to separate itself from the pack over the next couple of fixtures.

You can always count on Luke Jackson to produce with the bat, the question then is who is going to be the guy to step up and work alongside him each week.

Souths

The third team sitting on a 4-3 record at this juncture, Souths are the delineation point between the finals contenders and those that look set to miss out.

They have also proven they have the talent to go toe-to-toe with anyone in the competition, and again the result may simply come down to who has it on the day.

Norths

While they still have a mathematical chance of making the finals, it’s fair to say that earning a top four spot will be an uphill battle for Norths to say the least.

Brothers

Unfortunately for Brothers their finals hopes went out the window a number of weeks ago, but they still have plenty to build on over the next couple of weeks to turn themselves into contenders come 2025.
