Six fire crews have battled a fierce blaze in hot conditions just out of Mackay as Queenslanders are being warned of a horror fire season ahead with 38 regions at risk.
The latest fire broke out at a paddock in Farleigh on Monday, threatening a number of properties.
It’s understood Queensland Fire and Emergency services were called to reports of a paddock on fire at Nebia Coningsby Rd, and arrived just before 11.15am.
Six fire crews in total responded to the incident, with both Rural units and Fire and Rescue units in attendance.
Queensland Police and Ambulance services were also on scene.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said crews had estimated the fire was “200m x 50m” in size when they arrived, and was moving south.
She said crews were “in action immediately trying to cut the fire off”, and worked to protect nearby structures.
At around 1pm the fire was deemed under control, and was burning within containment lines.
It’s not believed any homes or structures were damaged by the fire.
There are currently 50 active bushfires in Queensland.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have identified the 38 regions that are at high risk for bushfires this season, as one of the state’s top firefighters warns: “It could go from zero to 100 in less than an hour.”
Whole regions are at risk of out-of-control bushfires as a mix of hot and dry weather, coupled with large fuel loads combine for worrying fire conditions.
Parts of Central Queensland could get to 42C as a heatwave grips the state.
Ipswich, Boonah, Gatton, and Laidley were all forecast to hit a maximum daytime temperature of 36C on Monday, where the average maximum for October is 28.5C.
Heatwave conditions are expected to peak on Wednesday, with Mt Isa, Camooweal and Winton getting to 42C.
More to come.
