A Sarina family is sifting through the rubble of a fierce shed fire that destroyed most of their possessions.
Katya Galley and her family woke to loud explosions coming from the shed on their West Plane Creek Rd property shortly before 2.45am.
Their 15m x 20m shed, filled with what would normally be in their house that is undergoing renovations, was fully engulfed in flames.
Queensland Fire and Rescue crews arrived at the property about 3am, quickly going into action to douse the flames with water trucked to the scene.
Ms Galley said the shed fire cut the power which meant the property’s bore could not be used in the firefighting effort.
Fire crews had the blaze under control by 3.35am, they left the scene about 5.25am.
Furniture, tools, building materials and equipment, antique windows and a motorbike were among the items engulfed in the flames.
Ms Galley said the family was still discovering things they had lost and were yet to speak to their insurance company.
“There’s nothing left, nothing is identifiable,” she said.
Ms Galley said all thing considered, the outcome was “as good as could be expected”.
“Anything that was in there can be replaced with money but there’s a few sentimental items in there that can’t be replaced,” she said.
Ms Galley hoped their story would serve as a reminder to others in the community of the importance of having a back-up power supply.
From here, the family does not know what their next step will be.
They thanked the emergency services for their support and prompt response.
