Grasstree Beach man arrested over alleged Mackay CBD crime spree

A young man will spend at least the weekend in custody after he allegedly went on a crime spree in the city centre, targeting three businesses and a parked car.

A Grasstree Beach man will spend at least the weekend in custody after he allegedly went on a mini crime spree in the Mackay CBD targeting three businesses and a parked car.

Police allege the 26 year old broke into CQUniversity Mackay’s city campus building and Warrior the Centre, both on Sydney St, stealing a number of items.

Mackay Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Eaton said it was further alleged the man smashed through a car window to rummage through the parked vehicle.

Senior Sergeant Eaton said it was also alleged the man was “climbing on the outside of Hogs Breath Cafe”, also on Sydney Street.

It is alleged the offending occurred between 2am and 4am on Friday, June 17.

Police arrested the man, who was also allegedly carrying a knife, on Juliet St. He has been taken into custody and remains in Mackay watch house.

The 26 year old has been charged with two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence and one count each of wilful damage, high risk activity and possessing a knife in a public place.

He was denied watch house bail and will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday.
