A helicopter has rescued two bushwalkers who found themselves in trouble in the stifling heat on Saturday afternoon.
Just after 4pm the RACQ Central Queensland rescue helicopter was dispatched to Cape Hillsborough after a triple-0 call was made in regards to four bush walkers who needed assistance.
When the crew arrived on the scene only two bushwalkers were present, a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old female.
“She was suffering heat related symptoms,” a QAS spokeswoman said.
“She had blurred vision, was near fainting and could not walk unassisted.
“(He) was stable.
“Two were transported to Mackay Hospital.
“They were all young.”
“It was quite rugged, thick terrain,” RACQ media spokeswoman Tegan Philpott said.
“(The male) was fine but unable to walk the track back.
“She was in worse condition than him.
“(RACQ rescue) winched down to have a look and found only two people were waiting for rescue.”
The other two bushwalkers, who had been described to QAS and RACQ, were unaffected by the heat and had gone to get help.
Once help arrived, the two left safely on their own recognisance.
The patients were handed over to staff at the Mackay Base Hospital at 6.26pm for evaluation and treatment.
“The crew are able to access areas other emergency services can’t and what they’re able to do is nothing short of amazing.” said Mrs Philpott.
