A young woman accused of being involved in a horror incident where a man was shot in the stomach and then forced into his own vehicle, has switched lawyers as her matters progress through the courts.

Police arrested and charged Tarni Maree Hinschen following an incident at Sarina on June 22, 2024 when a man suffered a bullet wound to the stomach.

Police allege he was then forced in to his own vehicle and ordered to drive at gunpoint but he was able to get away.

He was initially taken to Sarina Hospital in a serious condition before he was moved to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.

Police have recovered a rifle, which they allege was used in the shooting.

Police allege Ms Hinschen, a 22-year-old Proserpine woman, had been with another person who was the main offender in the shooting incident.

Ms Hinschen is charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous conduct with a weapon, deprivation of liberty and robbery with actual violence armed/in company/wounded, used personal violence.

It is alleged these offences occurred on June 22 at Sarina.

She is also charged with three counts of breaching bail and possessing dangerous drugs.

Her matter was briefly mentioned on Wednesday in Mackay Magistrates Court that heard Ms Hinschen had switched lawyers to Aaron Sellenton, of Barron and Allen Lawyers, who had secured legal aid funding for the case.

Mr Sellenton said he had received the brief of evidence describing it as a “very very large brief” that he would need time to go through, also adding his client wanted to go through the brief.

The court heard they would then decide how the matter would be committed to the district court, where it needed to be finalised because of the nature of the charges.

The case was adjourned to March for mention.
