More residential homes have been pegged out for the Mackay’s city centre with plans to demolish a house to build a high-rise for NDIS-supported living.
3 Wellington Pty Ltd, via Jewell Planning Consultants, has submitted an application to remove or demolish the existing home at 3 Wellington St to replace it with a six-level tower.
The building includes 15 two-bedroom units and a further one-bedroom unit.
“The new units will be purpose built to cater exclusively for NDIS supported disabled persons, providing a higher level of independent living,” documents state.
The one-bedroom unit, with a 78sq m floor area and 88sq m balcony, is reserved for a live-in carer and will be connected “via an intercom and alarm system to the other 15 units”.
The two-bedroom units range from 91-93sq m of floor space with balconies ranging from 13-142sq m, and are designed to “optimise natural cross ventilation”.
Each unit has a kitchen, dining and living room, bathroom and separate ensuite, and laundry, and its own designated parking space.
Residents also have access to a large common space on the building’s fifth floor that includes a “covered BBQ area and landscaped recreation area”.
Details show the ground floor of the building will feature a 176sq m commercial area “envisaged” to be used for “healthcare activities” such as a pharmacy, doctors, dentist, physiotherapy or occupational health services.
The 1012sq m site is located between City Impact Church and Mater Misericordae Day Unit.
