Police are hunting for a suspect after a 49-year-old man with “serious injuries to his neck, face and hand” sought help from a Mackay Hungry Jacks store.

The victim was taken to hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said crews were called to the Peel St takeaway store about 9.50pm Saturday after receiving reports a man used a weapon to seriously injure the 49-year-old.

She said initial investigations showed the attack happened on the adjacent Victoria St with the suspect having left the scene before officers arrived.

Officers are now appealing for information from the public as they investigate the “grievous bodily harm” incident.

The QPS spokeswoman said the victim was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition and was as of noon Sunday in a “critical but stable” condition.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam vision is urged to contact police.
