A young man with no criminal history was driving with drugs in his system when he was caught with more than a hundred caps of MDMA.

Police found more than 100 ecstasy pills in Tydon Mark Ramshaw’s car when he was pulled over on Gordon St, Mackay on February 10.

The 19-year-old P-plate driver also tested positive for drugs present in his saliva.

Mackay Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday that Ramshaw had no previous criminal history, but acting magistrate Stephen Byrne said “being in possession of 107 tablets in your car was, in fact, a very serious offence”.

ATSILS solicitor Sarah-Jayne Reid said Ramshaw had an appointment on Friday with rehabilitation support at Lives Lived Well.

“My client has shown remorse,” Ms Reid said.

“He concedes that his actions were very silly on the day and he has brought great shame to his family.”

Ramshaw pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs, driving without his P2 plates attached, and drug driving.

“It’s often a tough monkey to get off your back, Mr Ramshaw, but you can do it,” Mr Byrne said of drug rehabilitation.

He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment wholly suspended for a period of two years and was fined $350 for drug driving, referred to SPER.

Ramshaw was disqualified from holding a drivers licence for three months and convictions were recorded.

“In the next two years, if you commit an offence ... you can be dragged back to this court and someone sitting in this chair will determine whether you should serve some of the 12 months,” Mr Byrne said.

“You don’t have to be a QC to work out if it’s a serious drug offence, bingo — you’re doing the 12 months.

“Mr Ramshaw, good luck ... don’t come back.”
