A mother of three allegedly forced her way into a Mackay city fringe unit at 3am before stabbing and slashing a teen girl with a box cutter while calling her a “homewrecker”, a court heard.
Police allege the 19-year-old heard loud knocking and went to the door of her Sophia St unit early Wednesday, July 5, where Shae-Lee Brooke Finney asked her to come out to a waiting car.
Mackay Magistrates Court heard when the teen refused, Ms Finney allegedly asked to use the bathroom before pushing her way through the door.
Ms Finney then allegedly grabbed the girl by her throat, saying to “shut up, don’t f--king make a scene or I’m going to kill you”, the court heard.
Police prosecutor Leonie Taufa’ao said Ms Finney then allegedly shoved the victim out of the house, causing her to fall to the ground, before punching her in the head twice.
“The ultimate act was a boxcutter blade stab to the victim’s left shin,” Ms Taufa’ao said during a bail application for Ms Finney.
“There was also some stomping on the victim’s chest.
“And as the victims trying to get back into the unit again, (Finney) grabbed her left arm and then used the box cutter blade again.”
The court heard the girl’s mother had woken up and witnessed Ms Finney slashing her arm and calling her daughter a “sl-t” and a “homewrecker” before running to the car and leaving.
When police arrested Ms Finney, Ms Taufa’ao said they found Facebook messages with what looked like photos inside the home showing blood alongside a link to a Daily Mercury online article.
Ms Finney is charged with enter dwelling at night with intent and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm or transmit serious disease. She has not entered any pleas.
Defence lawyer Robin Cathcart of ATSILS said while Ms Finney had a criminal history this kind of violence was “quite out of character”.
Ms Cathcart told the court Ms Finney was a 25-year-old mother of three, who also cared for her infant brother.
“She’s been granted bail on previous offences and has never breached those bail,” Ms Cathcart said.
“I would submit that there are certain conditions that could be placed on her bail if the prosecution is worried about her contacting the victim and the other witnesses to this offence.”
Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan said the charges were “extremely serious”, with a six-to-eight-year jail term within range for the grievous bodily harm charge.
“She’s not a person of good character,” Ms Hartigan said.
“And this is a considerable escalation in criminal behaviour.
“Unfortunately, while Miss Finney is innocent until proven guilty, the case against her is very strong.
“I find (her) willingness to participate in such extreme violence makes her an extreme risk to the community.”
Ms Finney’s bail application was rejected and her matters adjourned for committal on September 25.
