A convicted child sex offender who was convicted 20 years ago for “very serious protracted sexual offending” against a child has now been jailed for further crimes that allowed him to “still get his jollies off”.

Brian Leslie Jamieson, 60, was convicted of child sex abuse crimes in a Queensland district court in 2005.

This week, he fronted Rockhampton District Court to be sentenced for accessing and possessing child exploitation material two times – the second time while he was on bail for the first set of CEM offences – in 2024 in Gladstone and Gracemere.

Judge Jeff Clarke referred to Jamieson reoffending 20-odd years after being convicted of the child sex abuse as “still getting his jollies off”.

Crown prosecutor Cassandra Nitz said the convictions from 2005 were for “very serious protracted sexual offending” against a child.

She said the child abuse in the videos he possessed on the second occasion, while living at a residential care shared home in Gracemere, could only be described as “horrific”.

Jamieson was busted with 4748 category one CEM images and 221 category two when police searched his West Gladstone residence on January 3, 2024.

Jamieson was released on bail, and part of his bail conditions included not accessing the internet.

However, a carer at the share home where Jamieson moved to surmised he was accessing CEM, and police were called.

When police turned up with a search warrant on May 9, 2024, Jamieson had not only accessed CEM but also printed out material and saved 680 files to a USB.

They found his laptop on and with seven tabs open, including sites from which he accessed the material.

The CEM was also on his phone.

Judge Clarke said Jamieson used the USB to watch the CEM material in another room on another monitor.

He said some of the material involved children as young as two years of age.

Defence barrister Julie Marsden said her client, who worked as a painter until a car accident in 1991 where he broke his back, had been diagnosed with the progressive neurological condition Parkinson’s disease in 2018 and was struggling with depression at the time of this offending, along with the Parkinson’s diagnosis.

She said Jamieson’s parents separated when he was four years old, and he was raised by his very strict father, who was plagued by alcohol.

Ms Marsden said her client had 12 siblings.

She said the father of two and grandfather of four now lived in a remote community outside Bundaberg and was “frank” about his criminal background with his neighbours.

Jamieson pleaded guilty to two counts of using a carriage service to access child exploitation material and two counts of possessing child exploitation material.

Jamieson was remanded in presentence custody for 211 days.

He was sentenced to 4.5 years’ prison for the possession counts with a non-parole period of 12 months, and 2.5 years’ suspended after serving 12 months with a four-year operational period.
