A police spokesman said the 50-year-old was stood down from official duties in order to “keep [their] commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability”.

“This does not mean the allegations against the officer have been substantiated,” the spokesman said.

Sergeant Kerslake was initially given a notice to appear and was granted bail in Mackay Magistrates Court on October 12.

He is expected to appear for a mention on November 9.
