A Mackay magistrate had refused bail for an alleged serial courtroom no show despite there being no police objection to his release.
Robert Trey Cameron was meant to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on May 10 this year – but he didn’t.
In fact Magistrate Damien Dwyer said the 24-year-old father had allegedly failed to appear in court three times since January 2, 2022.
Mr Cameron’s solicitor Robin Cathcart had applied for bail.
To prosecution Mr Dwyer said: “You don’t have an objection … well I do.”
The court heard there were three arrest warrants on Mr Cameron’s file.
“I’m not going to let him go,” Mr Dwyer said.
Ms Cathcart argued her client had a four-year-old son and a partner.
“He’s had a four-year-old son the three times he failed to appear this year,” Mr Dwyer said.
“Certainly my client is in a precarious position and I ask that you would consider bail,” Ms Cathcart said.
“I’m trying to get him linked up with the elders and start some programs that will assist him in his issues that he may have.”
As well as failing to appear, Mr Cameron is facing a number of charges including possessing dangerous drugs, used drug utensils, unlawful weapons and tainted property.
He is also charged with drink-driving and unlicensed driving at Glenella in December 2021.
“Three times … he’s failed to appear, his application is refused, he’s remanded in custody,” Mr Dwyer said.
His case was adjourned to the Mackay Murray Court sittings later this month.
