The case against a coal truck driver charged over a Father’s Day crash southwest of Mackay that killed a beloved dad has been heard in court.
Reec Thiik Achiek was allegedly driving a road train along Saraji Rd at Dysart when it collided with the 4WD that Chris Goodwin was driving about 4.30am on September 3 last year.
The 4WD received catastrophic damage and Mr Goodwin, 45, was rushed to Moranbah Hospital but the Pioneer Valley father died hours later.
Mr Achiek, who is based in Brisbane, was charged with dangerous driving causing death.
The case against the 28 year old was briefly heard in the Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The court heard Mr Achiek was no longer represented by solicitor Troy Smith, of Smith Cambridge Lawyers, with the case now in the hands of solicitor Tam Elabbasi, of TWC Lawyers.
Magistrate Damian Dwyer adjourned the matter to April 3 for a committal mention and enlarged Mr Achiek’s bail.
Mr Dwyer ordered a brief of evidence be delivered to Mr Elabbasi by March 1, followed by registry committal documents by March 22.
