Detectives are on the hunt for thieves who forced their way into an Andergrove home and stole a small arsenal of firearms before causing deliberate water damage to the property.
Eight weapons and a quantity of expensive jewellery was taken during a break and enter of a Bedford Rd house sometime over April 24 and 25.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Eaton said the home had been vacant at the time entry was gained.
“The offenders have forced their way into a gun safe … eight rifles and shotguns were stolen,” the Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge said.
“There were taps that were turned on in the house that has caused a large amount of water damage.”
Senior Sergeant Eaton said investigations involving the theft of weapons were always a priority.
“Part of that will look at whether this was a targeted offence,” he said.
“We don’t want these firearms to fall into the hands of criminals or persons who may use such weapons in the course of other offences.”
Police are calling for anyone with information about this offending, or dashcam or CCTV footage of the area around that time to come forward.
