Fire crews battled the blaze engulfing a Racecourse home

Fire crews battled a blaze in a primary school as it threatened to wreak havoc to the rest of the school campus.

A police spokesman said the blaze at Moranbah East State School was deemed suspicious, unlike the fire that ravaged Moranbah unit complex in August.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said two crews were called to the scene on Williams St shortly before 6pm on Friday.

The spokeswoman said police found the blaze inside one of the buildings and managed to extinguish it by 6.30pm.

She said crews worked to control the scene which included ventilating the area until 7pm.

Reports indicate the fire caused minor damage to the building.

Police are investigating.
