Police have revealed their latest two-pronged strategy in a relentless crackdown on illicit drug operations and impaired driving in the Mackay region.

Operation Hotshot targets selected suburbs and towns throughout the region with high-visibility static drug and drink-driving testing to the side of the road.

Meanwhile, additional crews will execute search warrants of suspect properties.

The first instalment of Operation Hotshot in Bakers Creek resulted in six arrests, including one 35-year-old man charged with supply of dangerous drugs.

On the high-visibility side, police performed 682 roadside breath tests and 13 drug tests with one positive result for each.

Senior Sergeant Scott Ingram said Bakers Creek was selected because of an “abundance of intelligence” they had to conduct the covert side of the operation.

“There will be at least six more phases spread randomly throughout the remainder of the year,” Sergeant Ingram said.

“But if the need is there and the intelligence is available then we will be doing it more often.”

Sergeant Ingram said Operation Hotspot’s remaining locations would be scattered throughout the region and would be determined based on intelligence.
