Shocking allegations involving a horror sex act with cannibalism themes have come to light after a man was arrested and charged with rape and torture.
The incident came to light after the alleged offender appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court from the police watch house where he was held in custody on remand.
Police will allege the 26-year-old committed acts of rape and torture against a 17-year-old in Mackay.
They further allege the offending involved a BDSM (Bondage, Dominance, Submission, Sadomasochism) act gone wrong including “cutting and cannibalism themes”.
Officers also allege the offending occurred sometime between November and December 2023.
The charges were briefly mentioned this week when the court heard the man wanted to make a bail application.
However, Magistrate Damien Dwyer said he would not allow the freedom bid because police had indicated there could be further charges laid.
“I’m not prepared to take a bail app at this time because of the very serious nature of the allegations and possible pending charges,” Mr Dwyer said.
In September 2023 new laws were passed allowing those charged with prescribed sex offences such as rape to be named while the matters were still in the Magistrates Court.
Previously offenders facing these charges could only be named once a case had been committed to the district court, sometimes months or more than a year into the court process, and only then if it would not identify any complainant.
However, at this stage, it is unknown if naming the alleged offender would identify the teen complainant so this publication has chosen not to name the man.
Anyone convicted of rape faces the possibility of life imprisonment, while torture carries a maximum penalty of 14 years jail if convicted.
The case will return to court in February.
