A magistrate has unleashed his disgust at a prolific speedster’s behaviour after the 39 year old tried to excuse his latest offence.

Prosecutor Harry Coburn said police found Levi James Jones driving without a licence along Mackay Habana Rd in Richmond on June 11.

Jones, of Bakers Creek, told Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday he was unaware his licence was disqualified from an accumulation of demerit points but Magistrate Damien Dwyer interjected.

“I don’t accept that for a moment,” Mr Dwyer said.

“From November 2017, that’s three-and-a-half years, you have lost 37 points.”

Mr Dwyer said Jones turned a “blind eye” to his driving behaviour having received 24 speeding tickets since 2004, with eight of them issued after November 2017.

“Quite frankly you’re a disgrace, an absolute disgrace,” he told Jones.

“It just keeps happening, speeding, speeding speeding.

“What do you do when you get home three minutes earlier than you would have (otherwise)?

“You put your life at risk, you put everyone else’s life at risk.”

Mr Dwyer said he would disqualify Jones for the mandatory minimum of six months though he deserved a harsher penalty if it were allowed under the law.

He asked Jones if he had the ability to learn to which Jones replied his behaviour was disgusting.

Mr Dwyer agreed, fining Jones $800 and recording a conviction.
