Multiple drug charges, Clermont

Two men allegedly found with 90 grams of methylamphetamines, $5000 in cash and other drugs during a routine traffic stop in Clermont have applied for bail.

Mackay Magistrates Court heard Robert John Curtis and Jack William Richmond were driving on the Peak Downs Highway at Wolfgang on March 28 when police pulled them over.

The court heard at the time Mr Curtis was on bail for an indictable offence and Mr Richmond was on parole for drug offences.

During a police search of the vehicle officers allegedly found 90 grams of methylamphetamines and 300 grams of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags inside a larger cooler bag on the tray of the ute.

It is alleged police also found unused clip seal bags in the centre console, scales, one tab of LSD and a black bag containing used needles.

Mr Curtis and Mr Richmond’s bail applications were heard separately on Friday July 2.

The court heard the argument for both men was in relation to the time it would take for the canister of alleged methamphetamine to be tested, which would not be until November 5 at the earliest.

The court heard there was a “real risk” the men could serve longer on remand than any potential penalty handed down by the court.

Acting Magistrate Athol Kennedy adjourned his decision until Monday.
