Driver in serious condition following road incident at St Lawrence

A driver is in a serious condition following a car crash at St Lawrence, the latest in a spate of road incidents within a horror stretch between Mackay and Rockhampton.

A driver is in a serious condition following a car crash at St Lawrence, the latest in a spate of road incidents within a horror stretch between Mackay and Rockhampton.

Police received a call about 6.55am Tuesday that a vehicle was on its side off the Bruce Highway near the Granite Creek overflow bridge.

A QPS spokesman said the vehicle was about 15m off the roadway and as a result traffic was not blocked.

Mackay’s RACQ CQ Rescue chopper was tasked to the scene to retrieve one patient who was in a serious condition with arm, head, chest, and pelvic injuries.

It is understood a passenger was able to self extricate from the vehicle and suffered no injuries.

RACQ CQ Rescue stated that it was flying the patient to Mackay and then on to Townsville.

Initial reports indicate the driver may have had a medical episode resulting in the crash.

The forensic crash unit will not be called to the scene.

It is understood the rescue chopper has been called because of the location of the incident.

This is the latest in a number of road crashes at St Lawrence between Mackay and Rockhampton.

Last week Andergrove truckie Myles Goggan lost his life after a terrible truck rollover on the Bruce Highway.

His vehicle was headed southbound when it left the roadway between Clairview and St Lawrence just after 11.40am.

Mr Goggan was critically injured and died at the scene bring the district’s road toll to 18 for 2023.

Emergency crews were called to a serious truck rollover at St Lawrence on November 7.

A 55-year-old Rural View man died more than one week after a truck crash at St Lawrence on November 7 about 6.57am.

It is understood his legs had to be amputated as a result of his injuries in the crash.

The truck had crashed into a tree and rolled onto its side, leaving the driver and the sole occupant, entrapped in the vehicle for some time.

He was then flown to Rockhampton Hospital and he later died.
