A magistrate has blasted a Mackay teen driver as a “drongo” and an “idiot” after he amassed almost three times the number of demerit points allowable for a P-plater.
“You are simply too immature to have a licence,” Magistrate Damien Dwyer told the 19 year old.
Mackay Magistrates Court heard Brady James Miller’s traffic history included hooning, driving defective vehicles, carrying more passengers than allowed and speeding.
His latest escapade involved driving with a suspended licence on Sydney St on October 19, 2022 – his licence had been suspended for six months ending on December 28.
Mr Dwyer called Miller “an idiot” and a “drongo”, and said his repeated driving offences were childish behaviour.
“Nineteen years of age and you have lost your licence,” Mr Dwyer said.
Mr Dwyer said Miller’s 11 demerit points were nearly three times the number available to someone on a provisional license – the maximum available was four.
The teen already had almost $3000 in fines to pay back for his previous offending.
The court heard he “told police he was unaware of his suspension.”
“I was pretty much just going to and from work,” he told the court.
Mr Dwyer said it was clear Miller “didn’t learn” and disqualified his licence for six months.
The teen was also fined $900 bringing his debt “up to nearly $4000 in fines”.
“Now go back and grow up”, Mr Dwyer said.
