Ooralea men assaulted after stopping a man chasing a person down the street

Chaos erupted in a quiet Ooralea street after two men were allegedly assaulted when they attempted to stop a man chasing someone.

Chaos erupted in a quiet Ooralea street after residents attempted to stop a man from chasing a person along the roadway outside their home.

Senior Constable Steve Smith said a 61-year-old man was standing on his front lawn of his Bernborough Ave home with a 36-year-old man when they noticed a disturbance on Saturday, July 24.

He said the pair realised a person was being chased along the street by a man about 6.30pm.

The two men verbally challenged the chaser who allegedly grabbed the 36 year old and put him in a headlock.

The 61-year-old man was then allegedly elbowed in the face when he attempted to intervene.

A nearby member of the public then stepped in and tried to help by restraining the alleged attacker.

The attempt was unsuccessful and the man managed to get away and fled on foot.

Constable Smith said the alleged attacker was described as being of “tanned complexion, about six feet tall, heavy build, wearing a black T-shirt and jeans”.

Police are investigating the reported assault and urging anyone with information to contact them on Policelink or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
