The anonymous caller behind the bomb threat that forced shoppers and workers to evacuate Mount Pleasant Centre could face up to 10 years in jail.
Police swarmed the centre after the threat was phoned in to a specialty store about 9.15am Wednesday.
Senior Sergeant Nigel Dalton said depending on what was said on the phone, the caller could face up to 10 years in jail.
Sergeant Dalton said it hinged on whether police could prove the threat was intended as a “hoax” which would be determined by investigations into the call.
While no-one has been charged Sergeant Dalton said police were confident they would find the caller.
“The success rate on catching these people is pretty reasonable because everyone leaves a trail when they use telecommunications or internet services,” he said.
Police are encouraging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
