Kuttabul police raid overturns $42,000 cash, drugs and firearms

A tip off to police had crews trekking through the bushland property uncovering Nescafe coffee tins stuffed with brown substances, a modified .410 shotgun and $42,000 cash.

In a crackdown on rural crime Mackay police have seized $42,000, several guns and dangerous drugs from a Kuttabul property.

Members of the public tipped off police resulting in the property search on Wednesday morning.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew McNamara said police would not discriminate between city and country drug operations.

“We target drug offenders no matter where they are located,” he said.

Police allege they found a number of weapons including a shortened .410 shotgun and several smaller guns still being analysed.

Crews also located 140g of marijuana and 2g of methamphetamine along with the $42,000 cash.

Items wrapped in a black tarp stowed in a plastic bag and brown resin-looking substances stashed in a Nescafe coffee tin were found in the bushland surrounding the Kuttabul house.

A man and a woman were taken into custody at the property.

Police believe a 38-year-old Kuttabul woman was behind the operation and have charged her with a number of offences including proceeds of crime.

She was also charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing a shortened firearm, possessing a modified firearm and additional weapons and drug related offences.

A 40-year-old Mackay man was charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and other drug offences.

The raid comes just weeks after a drug bust on an Eton property where a man attempted to flee into the surrounding bushlands.
